## Key features

### Build a living city

- Residential, commercial and industrial zones in standard, suburban and old-town styles
- Grow from hamlet to village, town, small city, city, metropolis, megalopolis and megacity
- Curved roads, dirt tracks, avenues and pedestrian streets; bus, tram and train lines; airports
- Every car picks its own route; jams form at rush hour; better roads or transit lines fix them
- Car-free households walk or ride transit, so stops near homes and jobs matter

### Citizens and generations

- Kids, parents and grandparents age year by year; young adults move out to start their own homes
- Kindergartens raise birth rates, doctors raise life expectancy, schools fill and empty, and cemeteries run out of space
- Set the retirement age and parental leave, then watch the age pyramid shift a decade later
- Residents judge jobs, commute, safety, schools, parks, noise, pollution and the cost of living
- Tap any building to see how it is doing and exactly why it isn't growing

### Seasons and weather

- Heat waves raise air-conditioning demand; cold snaps need heating
- Clouds dim solar farms; storms spin wind turbines
- Snow blankets the town in winter, trees turn gold in autumn, harvests peak in summer
- The Local calendar follows your hemisphere's seasons and is on by default for new cities
- Fires spread from house to house, storms damage buildings, and unhappy residents take to the streets

### Economy

- Farms feed your people: sell the surplus, store part of it in a food reserve, or pay for imports
- Mines dig ore from the mountains until the vein runs dry
- High-tech industry moves in once the city is well educated
- Set taxes per zone, fund each department, take out loans, and choose from 14 policies
- Research 17 technologies and build 5 grand projects, including the World Expo and the Space Center

### Tourism

- Landmarks such as a Ferris wheel, stadium, opera house and Sky Tower, plus old-town streets and pedestrian zones, draw tourists; an airport flies them in
- Hotels collect a tourist tax. When they are full, visitors rent flats your residents can no longer live in
- Crowds bring crime, noise and rising rents; cap short-term rentals or double the tourist tax

### Data maps

- 26 data maps: traffic, pollution, groundwater, wind, crime, age, visitors and more
- Colour-blind friendly data maps

## Maps

Six maps:

- River Valley (Easy)
- Lake District (Easy)
- Coastline (Normal)
- Boreal Forest (Normal)
- Archipelago (Hard)
- Desert Oasis (Hard)

For each new city you choose the city size, terrain (flat, gentle, varied or rugged), generation pace and calendar.

## Modes

- Relaxed: $120,000 to start. Upkeep ×0.8, fires half as likely, no bankruptcy
- Normal: $60,000 to start. Twelve months in the red and the city is bankrupt
- Hard: $30,000 to start. Upkeep ×1.25, fires 1.5× as likely, same bankruptcy rule as Normal
- Sandbox: unlimited money and every unlock free. Achievements don't count

## Progression

- Eight ranks: Hamlet, Village, Town, Small City, City, Metropolis, Megalopolis, Megacity
- 25 achievements, kept across all your cities (Sandbox cities don't count)
- Timed missions: 12 kinds of goal with cash rewards; they expire
- Surprise news events
- A short, skippable tutorial

## Controls and accessibility

- Built for touch: place, preview, confirm
- Hold any button to learn what it does; undo your last moves
- Left-handed mode, a larger interface (UI size) and colour-blind friendly data maps
- Landscape on iPhone and Android; iPad also plays in portrait
